How to Find an Apartment/Sublet (mostly in New York)

What:

Stressed about finding an apartment after graduation or a summer sublet for an internship? We're going to walk through how to rent an apartment.

Our talk will focus in particular on the New York market since your hosts have rented there before. But we plan to cover the topic generally

We'll help you prepare a checklist of things to bring when apartment hunting and things to watch out for.

Presentation will cover:

  • How do I start searching? Whom should I talk to?
  • Can I get to work from there? (Neighborhoods, Subways, & Buses)
  • Is this apartment livable? (Apartment Shapes, Sizes & Condition)
  • What is the general application process? (With or without a broker)
  • What are the paperwork requirements? (Deposit Fees)
  • Can I afford this apartment? (Most Landlord's General Income & Credit Guidelines)
  • Special considerations when subletting.
