Ancient Studies Movie Night: Harriet (2019)

What:

Harriet Tubman was an abolitionist who escaped slavery and became a leader on the Underground Railroad, a network of safe places for enslaved people seeking freedom before the American Civil War. Tubman was also a nurse, a Union spy and a women’s suffrage supporter. Tubman is one of the most recognized icons in American history and her legacy has inspired people from all walks of life.

Ancient Studies is screening movie Harriet (2019) in recognition of the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade (March 25th).

Served with kola nut tea and bissap juice (made from hibiscus flowers), two plant based drinks from among an exhaustive list of food items that were introduced to Americas by the slave traders and are now an important part of American and Carribean diets.
