Casual College House Conversations

What:

Good evening,

Come stop by Casual Collegehouse Conversations tonight in teh mezzanine at 8PM.

The weekend is winding down, the semester is winding down, the calendar year is winding down.

This weekend Adele and I went to New York City to the Pennsylvania Society dinner. This ’society’ seems to have a primary purpose of hosting a dinner in Manhattan once each year. At the dinner they give an annual award and this year the awardee was Dr. Ala Stanford for her work on COVID in Philadelphia. Perhaps more importantly, Counterparts sang the traditional “Hail, Pennsylvania” and “God Bless America” at the event.

If you are scratching your head at all this, good. What is the Pennsylvania Society? It is a group of Pennsylvanians who formed a group of like minded individuals to promote the economic and industrial life of the commonwealth in a civil environment. This might sound like an exclusive club, but the truth is, to get in, you have to be born in Pennsylvania, graduate from a Pennsylvania college or university, or live in Pennsylvania for at least 7 years. I think the membership fee is abotu $100/year.

Interestingly, the biggest subpopulation of the group is the politicians from both parties of the commonwealth who come together without partisanship to profess their support for the Commonwealth with an emphasis on teh reason why we are a commonwealth instead of a state.

Interested in talking about the society, what it means to be a commonwealth, or what it means to participate in an intentional community, stop by Casual College house Conversations tonight. In the mezzanine, 8PM.

Even if you can’t come, when you graduate, think abotu joining the Pennsylvania Society no matter where you settle.
