Casual College House Conversations

What:

Welcome back, welcome home. If you would like a cup of tea this evening, stop by the mezzanine for Casual Conversations. I’ll have various teas and popcorners. 8PM, Harnwell Mezzanine.

I hope everyone enjoyed a break from classes for Thanksgiving Break. For everyone who was able to go ‘home’ for the holiday, welcome back. For everyone who considers Harnwell home, welcome home. Diana Ross in the movie version of The Wiz in 1978, sang about home. The movie came from the Broadway production of the same name. The story is a journey home for Dorothy at Thanksgiving. Hopefully you each had an easier journey home.

My family and I went home to Alaska. I have included a picture of the road home fro me. The weather this year ranged from -20F to +7F. The latter was quite balmy. We were warm inside and made a turkey. We stopped by our shut-in neighbors to make sure they were ok. We had long conversations with them about COVID and greek letters.

Home is often thought of as being made up of biological family members. Many people now include chosen family members too, to have a “chosen family". In both cases, home is also made up of friends. Whether Dorothy traveling through New York City, or each of us over our own Thanksgiving Break, our friends make both the journey and the destination feel like home.

I look forward to discussing the great outdoors in Alaska, home, greek letter variants, or travel over the holidays. Stop by for a cup of tea this evening and some popcorners. I am glad I am back in Harnwell.
